The Trails at Woodlot is an idyllic residential community located in Columbia, Maryland, near the Hobbit’s Glen Golf Course. There are 90 single-family homes and 32 townhomes in the community. It rests on 66 wooded acres nestled between the Hobbit’s Glen and Swansfield neighborhoods. It is adjacent to the Middle Patuxent Environmental Area which is designated as a permanent open space and offers access to walking paths and streams – making it a wonderful neighborhood for those who enjoy the outdoors.
It is a beautiful and unique “out-parcel” of Columbia with its own Homeowner Association, covenants, and by-laws. As an “out-parcel,” residents of this community are not required to pay the CPRA (Columbia Parks and Recreation Association) fee but still have the option to purchase Columbia membership packages to use Columbia Association facilities such as pools, gyms, and more. Columbia Association pools and a gym are within walking distance. Many of the homes in this neighborhood are adjacent to the parkland and pathways.
From the center of the community, walking or driving distance (by road) to the nearby Harpers Choice Village Center is 0.75 miles and 0.9 miles to the Columbia Athletic Club. The village center is anchored by a Safeway grocery store and offers a few professional services along with dining options such as Subway, McDonald’s, Rita’s Ices, Maiwand Kabob, Dunkin Donuts, Hunan Diamond, and Papa John’s. The neighborhood is about 2.5 miles from the Columbia Mall and Merriweather Post Pavilion, both of which are located in Columbia’s Town Center. The Columbia Mall and surrounding Town Center offer many more dining options, entertainment venues, and professional services. Howard County General Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, is about 1.25 miles away with other medical services nearby including the Medical Pavilion at Howard County. The nearest schools include Swans field Elementary, Harper’s Choice Middle School, and Wilde Lake High School.
This community was developed in the early to mid1990s, as an out-parcel of Columbia, in two phases. Phase 1 developed 44 acres which was primarily Woodlot Road and Woodnote Lane; phase 2 developed Wooded Way to the end of the property. The majority of the homes were built by Ryland and Patriot Homes. There are five custom Williamsburg homes and one Hallmark home. The undeveloped open space set aside for this community is over three times what the county required which left substantial room for open lots and wide borders to provide privacy and isolation while being located right in the heart of one of the original sections of Columbia.
